I gave talks to 3 different groups last month. The question I was asked most often was, “I often strain my voice after talking for a while. How can I prevent that from happening?”
To avoid straining your voice, you need to take care of it Before during After:
Before: Do not drink coffee, tea and milk. Coffee and tea remove moisture from your body, which will also dry out your vocal cords (strings). Milk creates phlegm. Drink warm water.
During: Learn the correct way to breathe, that is, breathe with the support of your diaphragm and enhance your voice through resonance. This way, you can talk as long as you want!
Later: If you have lost your voice, don’t talk, especially whisper (it adds more pressure to your vocal cords). Drink more water. Take a steam bath if possible. Or breathe in the steam from a cup of hot water. It will help relieve immediate surface wear on the edges of the vocal cords.
The most effective way Even to prevent vocal strain from happening is to learn the correct way to project your voice. Most people use their throat too much, which creates pressure on the vocal cords (cords) and can lead to permanent damage if it continues. To project your voice, you need a deep breath to support your projection, that is, breathe with the support of your diaphragm and enhance your voice through resonance. This way, you never have to worry about straining your throat.
