Every time you sit in front of the police interview panel, you will get a lot of unpredictable questions. Some of the questions can be predicted, and some can’t, especially scenario-based questions (also known as “what if” questions meaning “what if” this happens). Hypothetical police interview questions are extremely common during the oral board interview.
The hypothetical interview questions were initially designed to measure an applicant’s ability to adapt to various situations while under great pressure. You see, many recruits navigate through the basic questions of the scenario, while others fail miserably.
Here is a hypothetical question you might be asked during your police board oral interview:
1) You are sent to a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. Upon arrival, you notice that the female half is standing in the front yard badly injured and her blood is pouring from her forehead. She mentioned to him that her husband is armed and is near her somewhere. What is your first course of action after arriving on the scene?
Explanation:
The first thing you should do upon arrival at the scene when you have been in contact with an injured victim is to get them to a safe area and then call the DOCTORS. Why? Because you don’t have an image of the husband and he is armed. So he wants you and her to be somewhere near her squad car, and then contact MEDICS. All of this can be done in seconds. Next, you’ll want to contact your shift supervisor.
This type of question is quite common during the police board oral interview. The panel wants to see how well you handle scenes that are totally unpredictable. Here is a general rule: If you don’t know what to do, call your shift supervisor soon.
