Makeup brushes and makeup mixers can be breeding grounds for bacteria, especially if they are not cleaned regularly or stored properly, or worse, not shared with a friend. Think about it: even if you don’t have oily skin, the buildup of products and germs can contaminate your brushes, and if you don’t clean them, it will just transfer it to your face.
You should take the following steps when cleaning your makeup tools, be it brushes, blenders, and anything in between.
Step 1 – Rinse
As simple as this step is, you have to be very careful to avoid running water directly to the base of the brush. This is because the water weakens the glue and causes the bristles to fall out, which shortens the life of the brush. The proper way to rinse a brush is to always rinse the bristles with running water. However, the blender should be rinsed with lukewarm water until it is completely soaked through.
Step 2: cleaning
When cleaning brushes, a mild shampoo, soap, or daily facial cleanser can work perfectly to help remove makeup or dirt that has clung to the bristles over time. The shampoo should be applied to the brittle and rinsed with water until they are clean. You can also massage the bristles with coconut oil to remove all stubborn products from the brushes. The blender should be lathered with the shampoo and wash thoroughly and then rinse until the water runs clear.
Step 3: disinfection
Rinsing and cleaning the blender and the brush bristles is enough to remove all forms of dirt on the brush, but it is not enough to remove germs and bacteria. The only way to get rid of the bacteria is to disinfect the bristles. This can be done using a solution that contains two parts water and one part vinegar. The blender and brush bristles should be rinsed with water after sanitizing with the solution.
Step 4 – Drying
The last step to take to clean the brush and the blender is to dry them. Excess water can be removed with a dry towel. The bristles should be reshaped and the brush should be allowed to dry overnight. The blender should be air dried or if it needs to be used wet, you can get to work immediately.
