Summer is here and everyone is rushing to fix their air conditioners. An alternative that can be used for air conditioners can be evaporative coolers. Most of the people often confuse these two, but there is a significant difference between them and also in the way they work. Air coolers are portable units that work differently than air conditioners to cool the air. Although there are some disadvantages to using evaporative coolers compared to air conditioners, the advantages they offer far outweigh the disadvantages.
First, let’s learn how evaporative coolers work. These portable coolers work through an endothermic reaction which, in simple terms, means that the cooler absorbs heat from the air. As the cooler takes in hot, dry air and passes it through the water stored in the wick, the water absorbs heat from the air, causing it to evaporate. As the heat is transferred to the water, the air cools. These units, however, are most efficient in areas that have low humidity levels; which basically means there is very little moisture in the air. If there is a lot of humidity (high humidity) in the air, they would not be as efficient as they basically work on the principle of removing moisture from the air. You can think of a cooler as a type of fan. The difference is that it lets out fresh air since it is not capable of cooling an entire room but rather an object or a person. This is a key difference between air conditioners and evaporative coolers.
Their design and operation make evaporative coolers cheaper than air conditioners. They also do not consume as much electricity as the latter. You can take a cooler as an upgrade from a regular fan as it offers fresh air.
The coolers can be placed anywhere you have a power source and can start working immediately. In the case of air conditioners, you have to make sure that you have a permanent outlet outside your house for them to expel the hot air. Coolers only require a window or door to be opened to get hot air out and cool air to replace it. Another added benefit they offer is that since they are placed indoors and keep the air fresh through an endothermic reaction, they can remove dust particles from the air in your room. As the air passes through the chiller system, it is not only cooled, but dust and other particles are also removed, giving your room cleaner air.
Air coolers may be a cheaper solution for you this summer. Its operation does not require much energy so it is more economical. Repairs for them are also not expensive, unlike air conditioners that require expensive maintenance. Now you can spend this summer relaxing on the beach without having to worry about electric bills!
