Do you sign your blog posts? Does your name appear anywhere in most of your blog posts?
This question came up recently in a discussion about how writers create a platform where they can sell their books. Are you recognized as a writer?
For example, I write most of my blog posts, even on my own websites as “admin” or “admin” because that’s how I set up my blogs. It started as a professional distinction, when I publish for my clients and became the standard publishing signature for most of my blog posts. My name rarely appears in my blog posts.
So do you recognize me from them?
What kind of brand recognition comes from writing a blog post?
If I add a resource box like I would on most articles I write for most article marketing sites, my name might appear in the resource box. But, maybe not. In fact, I could only refer to a relevant website or topic, and not mention my name.
So, in the almighty world of fame and fortune, am I short-circuiting my own recognition factor by not using my name or by building a platform by which my name is recognizable? In these days when self-promotion is considered a dirty trick, writers often go unrecognized in an effort to be politically correct. So how do you change that self-promotion thing, without blowing your own horn in a politically incorrect way?
Signature blogs.
When the blog post particularly reaches your target audience, make it a dedicated blog. Put your name on the blog and take credit for your work in a resource box of some kind, in an “byline” or some other form of credit acknowledgment that tells people you are/were the author of the article or blog post. .
By all means, put your name in some sort of resource box, include your name in the tags, and be one of the CATEGORIES your article appears in on your own blog. Give yourself credit in ways that draw attention to the article through your name. In fact, I recommend even going the extra step, adding a quote of your own, or using a signature line in your article as a subheading or subheading. Find ways to insert your own experience into the article in a “signature” way before leaving the article alone.
Writing your name in the sands of time means standing on your soap box and taking credit for what you say. Give yourself credit with a signature mark that effectively says “this is me, come and read.”
