It’s that mid-season time of year to check out your boat or yacht after many wonderful days of driving or sailing!
The pleasure you’ve gotten from your boat should continue without major problems on your list. It’s a good time of year to go over a few things to keep things running smoothly. Clear cabinets and storage areas of unwanted buildup, debris, and of course, any mold or mildew. Updating these areas gives you an idea of any changes to the integrity of the boat or yacht. Mold or mildew can be caused by moisture entering through studs, battens, or seams that are not properly sealed, and has some cracks that cause water or moisture infiltration. These splits can be caused by high speed hull movement or stress in a particular area. Check thru-hull fittings and hoses/clamps. Don’t just look, take a screwdriver and see if it’s loose, or even worse if it’s stripped and you can take your screwdriver and keep turning without squeezing anything! Change that hose clamp and check out the rest! It’s shoulder season, so this is a good time to check out your boat or yacht.
For good maintenance, wash and wax your hull and deck to prevent the sun’s rays from damaging the shine of your gelcoat. By waxing now, it will also give you that protective layer for the winter. Add protective coatings and upgrades to the exterior deck trim… keep that value in your boat for years to come.
Another area to check is your engine. This is a large part of the value of your boats or yachts and keeping them in top condition is certainly the right thing to do. Check to see if paint is lifting off the engine, a sign of a hot spot or corrosion. Check for any wet spots from loose hose clamps or your water pump housings. Check for oil films on the valve cover or other areas, possibly due to a loose gasket or a sign that your engine is heating up, diluting the oil so it can now leak out of other areas… Or just you have the wrong type or grade of oil for your boat or yacht engine.
This is also a great time of the year to change your oil to get it back to maximum viscosity and protection! It’s the right thing to do and definitely great for the propulsion section of your boat or yacht.
Maintain your value in your vessel by holding it to high standards… Not to be missed!
