Do you know the difference between
- A soup
- A pan
- a stew
- A hot drink?
I define soup as a liquid food that has been prepared by boiling a combination of vegetables, meat, fish, and seasonings.
The soup is usually served as an appetizer as the first part of the dinner, but depending on the type of soup, it can also be the central point of a dinner, complemented by bread or toast.
The soup is also used for medicinal purposes, as a way to provide a nutritious meal that is easy to digest.
types of soup
CLEAR SOUPS
Clear Soups are made from a carefully prepared broth, using meat or vegetables for flavor. The main varieties of clear soups are broth and consommé.
THICK SOUPS
Thick soups are also made with broth, but are thickened by adding milk or cream, vegetables, eggs, rice, or grain. Thick soups can be quite similar to casseroles or casseroles, and can form the base of the meal.
BROTHS
The brothers are made from a clear stock base. Broths can be a light soup, but more often they are prepared as a thick soup using vegetables, rice, or barley and served as the substantial portion of a meal.
CREAM SOUPS
Creamy soups, like Creamy Potato Soup Recipe, are smooth, flavorful, and highly nutritious. Generally, to make a cream soup, the ingredients are mixed together after cooking and a small portion (a cup or so) of cream or milk is added to the soup. When I reheat a cream soup, I am always careful not to boil the soup.
BISQUES
The soups are generally rich and thick, and are made with game fish or shellfish (lobster, shrimp, or crab).
CREAMS
Seafood is often the base of fish soups and is complemented by vegetables and crackers or croutons.
PURES
The purees are soft punches, which are made by blending the ingredients once the cooking process is finished. A puree is not as thick as a cream soup.
Soup is indeed a versatile form of eating and definitely deserves more praise than is commonly given!
