There is something very special about spending time in Italy. Having spent quite a bit of time traveling across the country, it’s a place I continue to love.
When I recently returned from my last trip to this beautiful European country, I found that many people were asking me how my vacation was. What was it, they wondered, that drew me back to the field?
For those of you who have already experienced holidays in Italy, the question may seem strange. After all, how can you not enjoy a trip to this wonderful place?
I realized that for people who hadn’t traveled to Italy before, it wouldn’t necessarily be obvious what the highlights of said trip would be.
Although you can read reviews online, sometimes they lack a personal touch. I decided to think about my vacation and identify the key elements that made it so special.
The strange thing is that the first aspect that came to mind was not as obvious as you might think. Did I think of the marvelous Roman remains in the capital? No, I did not do it.
Perhaps it was the beautiful architecture found in Florence, or the unique sense of place that you can only find in Venice? Strangely, it was none of these.
The first thing that came to my mind was how wonderful it was to eat in Italy. I could feel myself relaxing as I recalled times spent in small Italian restaurants, eating some of the best food in the world.
It is a country where food is prepared in a simple style but always seems to taste delicious. The local people make you feel so welcome that it is almost like you are a guest in their own homes.
These are the highlights that separate Italy from so many other places. Although the country has wonderful landscapes and glorious cities, it is the hospitality of the people and their wonderful food that captures the senses.
I cannot recommend a holiday in Italy highly enough – this is a place to be enjoyed.
