Alta ski resort
Arguably Utah’s best ski resort, Alta Ski Resort is the Utah destination for serious skiers. Located about 43 km east of Salt Lake City, it is situated in the Wasatch Mountains at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Alta has very challenging terrain, comprising steep slopes and allowing skiing through trees.
There are also plenty of slopes that are easy to navigate, making it easy for even beginners to come to Alta for an amazing ski experience.
Alta is also one of the oldest ski resorts in the United States and has its own set of traditions. For example, if you are looking for a snowboarding adventure, you will not be welcome in Alta. Its long tradition prohibits snowboarders from entering the enclosure.
That said, Alta can be intimidating at times with its serious ski culture. However, the atmosphere at Alta is friendly to those just starting out.
The Alta Ski Area has 891 hectares of land and a large ski lift infrastructure.
Even the snow in Alta is pristine – said to have been achieved thanks to a lack of snowboarders! The resort is also connected to Snowbird Ski Resort via its slopes and lifts. You can get a free shuttle bus between the two places.
Alta Ski Resort is a 45-minute drive from Salt Lake City International Airport. You can hire the airport transportation services to get there.
