God makes promises in the Bible over and over again, and over and over again those promises come true. Sometimes there is a rather long period between the promise and its fulfillment. Look at Abraham and Sarah, for example.
They longed to have a sound. They longed to have offspring. But obviously, the older you get, the fewer opportunities you have! At eighty they knew they would never have children. So they made their own plans and Abraham had a son with his slave girl, Hagar.
Unfortunately, this plan backfired and ruined relations in Abraham’s household. Isn’t this what usually happens when we try to make our own plans?
Abraham was 99 years old when God promised him through three angels that he would have many descendants, which meant that he would have a son of his own blood. I wonder what went through Abraham’s mind when the angels left after giving him this news and he saw his wife, also an old woman, dragging her feet past.
“Well, Father, I wonder how you’re going to handle this?” It was probably a thought that passed through his head.
But the Bible tells another story: 15Abraham resisted and got everything he was promised.
It doesn’t seem like Abraham threw his toys off the cot and started asking questions like “How long, Lord?” “I’ve been waiting for a century. Isn’t that enough now?” Even less did Abraham look at reality and put this before God. “Really, father, let’s face it. Sarah and I are on the wrong side of the biological clock, you know…”
No, Abraham did a thing. He waited patiently.
His faith was great enough. She knew how far God could go. He did not box God. He did not attribute human abilities to God. He knew that everything was possible with God. He knew and believed that God can cross the limits of reality to fulfill the promise that he made to him.
So, he waited patiently. Even though she waited the better part of a century.
God keeps His word. God keeps his promises and will do anything, even the impossible, to make sure his promises are kept.
God will also keep His promises to you. Even if it takes a miracle. Even if that means the impossible becomes possible. That’s what God does. He has to keep his promises to you.
You just have to wait patiently. I know it’s hard, because we want everything for yesterday. But learn from Abraham and wait. Even if it takes the better part of a century. Just wait. Just keep going. God will come for you!

Reflection
What promises must be fulfilled in your life?
Do you trust God to fulfill them?
How should you wait?
Sentence
Father, thank you for all the promises in Your Word. I must confess that I don’t even know all of them. But I need many things to come true in my life. Please help me with this, Lord. In the name of Jesus, amen.
